The Louisiana Agriculture and Forestry Department is seeking information in finding persons responsible for the death of a cow and three calves. Commissioner Mike Strain says they were killed in a pasture at a levee near Port Barre.

"Inspectors say it appears the cattle were run over by a truck. According to witnesses, they say they heard what sounded like trucks mud riding in the area around midnight on March 3rd."

The persons responsible for the cow’s deaths entered the property illegally where state owned cattle are present. Strain says people should not be on the levee to begin with.

"Here we have damage to the property, we have dead cattle, but also you damage the levee and that levee's there to protect all of us."

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Agriculture Department, Livestock Crimestoppers or the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
