Front Will Bring Rain And Not Much Cold To Acadiana
Last week about this time we were hopefully speculating that we'd be gleefully telling you about a "fall-like" weekend in Acadiana. The long-range forecast models were predicting the season's first cold front to pass through the area and bring cooler temperatures to the region.
Well, forecasters were kind of on target. The cold front is coming but it doesn't look as if the cooler temperatures will be with it.
Early this morning the frontal boundary was poised just to the north and west of Shreveport. The system is expected to move slowly southeastward during the day today.
There is a very strong threat of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast for much of the I-10 corridor. Forecasters say some of the storms could produce localized flooding and the ponding of water on the roadways. So, be mindful of that if you're traveling later today.
The frontal system is expected to push through Acadiana later this afternoon and into the evening. We might wake up to slightly cooler temperatures on Thursday and high temperatures might be limited to the lower 80's on Thursday afternoon.
By Friday the frontal boundary will drift back to the north and that will keep instability in the atmosphere and that means the threat of even more showers or thunderstorms. By the way, the long-range forecast through the middle of October is showing no significant cool down either. So, it looks as if Summer wants to stay a little longer. Let's just hope the really sticky weather will be gone by Halloween.
