The family of a twenty-two-year-old Lafayette man say they heard a loud boom come from his room. The family went to investigate, and they found the room on fire.

Lafayette Fire Department Spokesman and Fire Investigator Alton Trahan says, via press release, that Brock Johnson died as a result of the fire.

The man's family man tried desperately to get the man out of his bedroom, but they were unsuccessful in their attempts. The Lafayette Fire Department was contacted, and they were able to begin bringing the blaze under control after getting there around 8:38 last night. It took about twenty minutes for the fire fighters to put this blaze out.

The man's cause of death will have to be determined by the Lafayette Parish Coroner's Office.

This fire happened at a home in the 200 block of St. Benjamin Drive.

Trahan says in addition to his investigators from the Lafayette Fire Department, the fire is also under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department along with the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office to try to figure out what the loud boom was that the family described before they found the fire in the bedroom of that home.

There is massive damage to the home. There were multiple people in the home when this situation started to unfold including the man's mother, step-father, and his brothers and sisters. All of those people were able to leave the home.
