LA Department of Revenue to Collect Sales Tax on Online Purchases in 2019
Plan on making a big online purchase anytime soon? Well, you should do it before the end of the year.
The Louisiana Department of Revenue has announced that they will begin collecting taxes from online purchases beginning in 2019. How much you pay will depend on your zip code.
A recent Supreme Court ruling gave states this authority, but experts say you really won't notice much of an affect.
"As far as most of your purchase with your big retailers, you're already getting charged sales tax with them when you buy online, including Amazon, so your experience isn't going to change," said Robert Travis Scott, Public Affairs Research Council president.
You may notice a difference from other places like eBay and Etsy. Some specialized sellers don't collect taxes voluntarily like the larger retailers do and that's where you'll notice the difference.
