Starting off in Hollywood is rarely a glamorous endeavor -- rather, it's one the requires hard work, patience, and a handful of really bad side gigs meant to supplement a budding star's cash flow until they hit the big time. Melissa McCarthy might be one of our biggest stars, but McCarthy definitely paid her dues before rocketing to the star stratosphere.

McCarthy hit 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' last night to chat a little about those early years, including a cringeworthy story about that time she almost died. The funny lady recounted to host Jimmy Kimmel the story of a dramatic, dry cleaners-set stick-up, during which McCarthy (who worked at the dry cleaners at the time) maybe almost lost her life begging for the culprit to leave her mascara alone. Hey, makeup is not cheap. (We're glad you lived, Melissa.)
