Now that 2020 is a wrap, we're starting to see a tiny sliver of hope for the new year. Even though vaccines are being rolled out as we speak, the coronavirus pandemic has taken a terrible toll on the lives of Americans, and citizens worldwide. The daily updates in the media are a reminder of just how brutal this virus has been. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say "Good Riddance" to this year.

And now, as we approach a fresh new year, officials are finding a way to honor those that have died from coronavirus. According to WBRZ in Baton Rouge, the Presidential Inaugural Committee will host a memorial to recognize and honor individuals in the U.S. who have lost their lives to COVID-19 at a ceremony in Washington D.C. on January 19. PIC Communications Director Pili Tobar is asking cities and communities across the US to join Washington D.C. in illuminating buildings and ringing bells at 4:30 PM CST as a moment of unity and remembrance for all the victims lost to this horrible virus.

Director Tobar goes on to say "it is important that we honor those who have died, reflect on what has been one of the more challenging periods in the nation's history, and renew our commitment to coming together to end the pandemic and rebuild our nation."

I'm hoping our communities across Louisiana will participate because this sounds like a small but significant way to remember our loved ones that have been affected so drastically from COVID-19.
