The phrase, "There's a new sheriff in town" really does apply in Iberia Parish, as voters went to the polls this past Saturday, and fifty-two percent of voters decided to elect Tommy Romero as the new Sheriff.

Romero beat his opponent, Murphy Meyers, to become the parish's next Sheriff.

In other election news, the City Marshal's job was won by Tony Miques with fifty-seven percent of the vote at the end of Saturday evening.

In other election news from Iberia Parish, the voters decided to vote in favor of an extension of the 10-year millage on property.

The money is used to construct, improve and maintain industrial parks along waterfront development in Iberia Parish.

The tax millage extension passed with fifty-six percent of voters casting their ballot in favor of the measure.
