Petition Seeks To Force Council’s Hand On Drag Queen Story Time
A local group of concerned citizens is gathering signatures on a petition that they hope will coerce the members of the Lafayette City-Parish Council into taking a public stand concerning a proposed event at the Lafayette Public Library.
The group, Citizens for a New Louisiana, says they know where the Library Board stands on the issue of the proposed Drag Queen Story Time but they'd like the City-Parish Council to go on record in this particular controversy.
The plan, according to reports, is for the group, Citizens for a New Louisiana, to continue to gather signatures on their petition and then present that petition to the Lafayette City-Parish Clerk in the coming days or weeks.
The Drag Queen Story Time idea was brought to the Library by members of Delta Lambda Phi social fraternity at UL Lafayette. The group wanted to use the story time event as part of the community outreach program of their organization.
As of now, the event planned for October at the Main Branch of the Library will go on as scheduled.
