It's been quite a start to the season for Louisiana Ragin' Cajun pitcher Summer Ellyson.

A  sophomore right-hander, Ellyson currently leads the Sun Belt Conference with a 1.59 ERA.

Texas St. pitcher Randi Rupp, the Preseason Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year, is currently second, with an ERA. of 1.67.

A product of Teurlings Catholic High School, Ellyson started the year with a bang, striking out a school-record 20 batters in a 7-inning game, in a 7-1 win over Evansville on opening weekend.

In week 2, Ellyson pitched Louisiana to a memorable 4-3, 11-inning win over second-ranked Florida, for which she was named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Once again, Ellyson was great in week 3, twirling her first career no-hitter in a 4-0 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday night, prior to not allowing an unearned run in her other two outings, against North Florida and Memphis, respectively.

In all last week, Ellyson pitched 23.2 innings without allowing an earned run, while allowing only four hits and striking out 16 batters.

For the season, Ellyson is 5-1, to go along with her 1.59 ERA.

In 48.1 innings pitched, Ellyson has only allowed 11 earned runs on 30 hits, while recording 46 strike outs.

Yes, it's still early in the 2018 college softball season, but Ellyson is off to a fabulous start.
