The 15th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns recorded another early season win on Thursday, and they did it courtesy of a no-hitter.

Louisiana defeated the Southeastern Louisiana Lions, 4-0, in the first day of play in the 32nd Louisiana Classics at Lamson Park.

The triumph improved UL's record in the Louisiana Classics, which dates back to 1987, to an amazing 122-16-1.

Sophomore right-hander Summer Ellyson was the story, tossing a no-hitter, the first of her career, while facing only one above the minimum.

Ellyson's no-hitter is the first for a UL pitcher since the Baton Rouge NCAA Regional last year, when Alex Stewart no-hit the McNeese St. Cowgirls in a 6-0 win.

The last regular season no-hitter by a Cajun pitcher was back in 2016, when Kylee Jo Trahan no-hit UTA, in a 16-0, 5-inning win.

Louisiana got on the scoreboard first, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the third inning, one unearned, including a run-scoring groundout off the bat of Kourtney Gremillion, to give them a 2-0 lead.

The Cajuns added another unearned run in the bottom half of the 5th inning, when Alissa Dalton stole third, and then scored on a throwing error, to widen the advantage to 3-0.

UL scored an insurance run in the bottom half of the 6th inning, when pinch hitter Caitlin Garcia drove home a run with a ground ball to make it 4-0.

That was all the Cajuns would need, as Ellyson was superb, twirling a no-hitter, in the 4-0 triumph.

Louisiana, who outhit Southeastern Louisiana, 3-0, was paced at the plate by Dalton, who went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Kourtney Gremillion and Brittany Rodriguez both drove home runs.

Ellyson (4-0) recorded the win in the circle for the Cajuns, tossing a 7-inning no-hit shutout, while striking out five.

Ellyson allowed a leadoff walk, who was called out trying to steal, and then retired 19-straight, before allowing her second walk of the game.

In her memorable outing, Ellyson threw 98 pitches.

Lacey Hill (3-1) suffered the loss for the Lions, allowing 4 runs on 3 hits in 5 innings of work.

With the victory, Louisiana improved to 8-2, while Southeastern Louisiana dropped to 7-3.

Louisiana returns to action on Friday, taking on North Florida, in their second of five games in the four-day event.

First-pitch is scheduled for 5 o'clock.
