The U.S. military has dropped a 21,000- pound non-nuclear bomb on reported ISIS targets in Afghanistan.

National and international media outlets are reporting U.S. military forces a GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb at 7 p.m. local time Thursday.

The bomb reportedly struck a system of caves and tunnels where ISIS forces have been stationed.

Fox News offers the following comparison to illustrate the massive nature of this type of ordinance.

For comparison to the 21,000-pound MOAB, each Tomahawk cruise missile launched at Syria last week was 1,000-pounds each.

CNN reports this is the first time this bomb, which was developed during the Iraq War, has been used in the battlefield.
