Kentwood, Louisiana native Britney Spears is stepping up to help schools in her home state after last year's disastrous flooding. Spears, who has a residency in Las Vegas, will donate $1 of every ticket sold at her Vegas shows to help with flood recovery.

Her mother, Lynn Spears, is a personal friend of Louisiana First Lady Donna Edwards, who helped spearhead the donation. According to the Louisiana School Boards Association, the money will be contributed to a state fund that will go towards helping teachers purchase supplies and instructional materials. Lynn Spears and Donna Edwards come from the same parish, and were former teachers together.

Spears is currently performing at the Axis at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas through December 31.
