Capital One revealed that a hacker managed to get access to the personal information of 100 million people.

The specific Capital One customers who were affected by the massive data breach were those individuals applying for credit. According to the Huffington Post, Capital One admits they first noticed the "vulnerability in their system" on July 19 and have been working with law enforcement to catch the responsible party.

The FBI has reportedly arrested the hacker behind the breach in Seattle and Capital One believes that it's unlikely that the information was used for fraud. Regardless, they will continue to investigate.

The hacker got information including credit scores and balances plus the Social Security numbers of about 140,000 customers. It will offer free credit monitoring services to those affected.

The breach affected approximately 100 million people U.S. and roughly 6 million in Canada.
