Saints Sign Ladell Betts On This Day in 2010
On this date, seven years ago, the New Orleans Saints signed a running back who once rushed for 1,000 yards in a season.
Don't worry about it if you don't remember, as a lot of people barely recall his tenure with the Saints.l
The team inked Ladell Betts to a deal on August 16, 2010, before cutting him prior to the season opener, following their Super Bowl season of 2009.
The Saints would bring back Betts, however, after Reggie Bush suffered a broken leg in the Saints' second game of the season, while returning a punt against the San Francisco 49ers.
Needing help at running back, the Saints again signed Betts on September 22, 2010.
The 5-foot-10, 222-pound Betts had the best season of his career in 2006, rushing for 1,154 yards with the Washington Redskins.
Age 31 in 2010, Betts' best days were behind him, but he did rush for 150 yards and two touchdowns in 8 games with the Saints.
Many Saints fans forget that Betts, a former 1,000-yard rusher, played for the team, and did so the year following a Super Bowl triumph.
