It was deja vu all over again as the LSU Tigers faced the Rice Owls with a chance to advance in the NCAA Men's Baseball Tournament on the line. Just like last year, it was the Tigers prevailing.

LSU didn't waste any time getting the scoreboard Sunday night as LSU posted 3 runs in the second inning. They would add another run in the third inning and yet another in the fourth inning. From there it was all on the arms of the LSU pitching staff.

Eric Walker the freshman from Texas was strong into the 9th inning. He then passed the ball to Tiger reliever Zach Hess who finished off the Owls. The final score was LSU 5 and Rice 0.

LSU reaches the Super Regional round of the NCAA tournament for the 13th time. That is the second most times a school has reached that round in college baseball history.

What's next for the Tigers? All eyes will be on Hattiesburg Mississippi when two Magnolia State powerhouses will compete for the chance to face the Tigers. Southern Miss just has to win one game against Mississippi State today to advance. The Bulldogs will have to take two from the Eagles if they want their season to continue.

Regardless of who wins the Hattiesburg Regional they will be traveling to Baton Rouge to take on the Tigers. That Super Regional could begin either this Friday or Saturday depending on how the NCAA schedules that round of the tournament.

The action in Hattiesburg will begin at 1 PM today, weather permitting. There is a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms in the Hattiesburg area at that time. So don't be surprised if that game is delayed. Should an "if necessary" contest is needed that is scheduled to begin at 6 PM.
